The Tigers took a 2-1 lead into the third period but, for the second game in a row,
they surrendered two late goals and lost 3-2. A close defensive game throughout,
neither Heights nor Shaker had an overwhelming number of scoring chances.
Pat Collins broke the scoreless tie in the second
period when he redirected a Mike Ruflin shot past
Shaker's netminder. Shaker came right back to tie the game at one, but the Tigers
picked up a shorthanded goal to retake the lead.
Dan Cross-Call and
Andrew West started a 2-on-1 during a Shaker
powerplay but couldn't connect on a crossing pass. It was defenseman
Kyle Barden who followed the play, gathered the
loose puck, and slipped in the go-ahead goal. The 2-1 score held until twelve
minutes into the third period. Heights was caught in a line change and Shaker scored
the tying goal on a shot from just inside the blue line. Not thirty seconds later,
Shaker scored again when the Tigers failed to clear a loose puck in front of the net.
Just like the prior game against Findlay, a potential Heights win turned into a
bitter defeat in the final minutes. |
