The Tigers had a close call with the Mentor Cardinals in their first game of the
Heights Holiday Tournament. Heights kept the puck in the offensive zone for most
of the game, outshooting Mentor by a 2-1 ratio, but good Cardinal goaltending held
the Tigers scoreless for nearly two periods. Mentor scored the first goal of the
game on a breakaway about halfway through the second period.
Jared Lavender answered for Heights, collecting
his first high school goal late in the second period. Less than one minute into
the third period, Pat Collins knocked in a loose
puck for his third goal of the season and a 2-1 Heights lead. Things got ugly near
the end of the game with half a dozen penalties being called in the final three
minutes, but Pat Collins eventually sealed the win with an empty-net goal.
Ben Gaglioti stopped 14 shots for his second
consecutive win.
