The opening round of the State Tournament put the Tigers up against the Kenston Bombers
for the second time in three weeks. The rematch unfolded in much the same manner as the
first meeting, with Heights keeping the pressure on Kenston for long stretches but
struggling to score. The Tigers led 3-1 after two periods, but they kept working
hard to insure the victory with two third period goals, while allowing one Kenston shot.
The final shot count was 40-9 in Heights' favor.
Ethan Farris led the offense with two goals and one
assist. He scored the only goal of the first period on a breakaway, then struck again in
the second. Sophomore defenseman Brandon Saylor also
scored in the second period. With the Tigers on the powerplay, Saylor jumped ahead on a
breakaway and buried the puck for his first career goal.
Paris Murray and
Dan Holmes each had third period goals, and Murray has
now scored in four straight games. Nick Schmidt earned
the win to improve his record to 6-5.
