A 4-2 home loss to Mentor ended the Tigers' three-game league winning streak. Heights
didn't put the puck away when presented with some excellent opportunities. These
included a pair of shots at open nets as well as a 2-on-0 breakaway. Without getting
the job done on offense, the Tigers couldn't cover for their defensive zone mistakes.
Typical errors like a weak pickup in front of the net and a careless turnover inside
the blueline helped lead to Mentor goals. Paris Murray
accounted for the Heights highlights. He buried a shorthanded breakaway in the second
period, then hustled his way to another goal in the third. Murray shot from just inside
the zone, then raced to the goal line on the other side of the net to reach his own
rebound and throw it in from a bad angle. Trailing 3-2, the Tigers still had a chance
with a late powerplay, but the Cardinals killed it off and scored an insurance goal in
the final minute.
