For the second straight game, Heights matched up with one of the area's top teams,
drawing Shaker Heights to open the Thornton Tournament. The Tigers spent most of two
periods in their own zone before coming to life in a fast-paced third. Shaker led 5-1
after two, with Dee Samuel recording the only
Heights goal. A pair of Raider goals early in the third period made it 7-1 and the
Tigers were on the verge of another late-game collapse. The team could've called it
quits, but chose instead to keep battling. Their effort resulted in three unanswered
goals and a strong finish to the game. First,
Paris Murray buried a rebound for a powerplay goal.
Next, Ethan Farris scored off an odd-man rush. Finally,
Dan Crowell knocked in a loose puck after Dee
Samuel was stopped on a breakaway. Samuel ended up with a goal and two assists. In net
for the Tigers, Daley Baker totaled a season-high 40
saves.
