Heights gave a good effort in the league opener, but came up short in an overtime loss
to Bay. The Tigers were shaky in the first period as they struggled to get the puck out
of their own zone and the Rockets took a 1-0 lead. Things changed dramatically in the
second as Heights started applying offensive pressure and getting shots on goal. They had
trouble putting them away, however. Bay went up 2-0 before a friendly bounce helped the
Tigers get on the scoreboard. The puck was headed around the boards into the corner, but
it caught a snag and veered straight toward the slot, where
Martin Birk arrived to put it away. That would be all
the scoring until the final minute of regulation. With 50 seconds left and a sixth
attacker on the ice, Chris Zirm evened the score when
his centering pass through traffic deflected into the net. But the comeback was not
rewarded with a victory. Bay scored off a 2-on-1 in overtime to end the game.
Daley Baker finished with 14 saves while the Tigers
outshot the Rockets 31-17.
