The Tigers barely survived the opening round of the Baron Cup with an overtime win against Lakewood. Heights trailed 2-1 for the entire third period before bringing in a sixth attacker in the final minute. Tyler Rudy won a faceoff in the Rangers' zone and Dominic DiTirro immediately fired a wrist shot inside the far post with 24 seconds on the clock. The Tigers went on to play some of their best hockey of the night in overtime. After a couple near misses for the Heights offense, Tyler Rudy flipped the puck in from a bad angle to win it. Prior to the final minute of regulation, all of the game's scoring took place in the second period. Lakewood took the lead on a powerplay early in the period. Peter Century knocked in a backhand goal from the slot to tie it, then Lakewood went back in front on a screened shot from the point. Goaltender Aidan Hall allowed nothing beyond that, finishing with 23 saves. |
