12/28/97 Cleveland Heights 2 - Mentor 0
For their second opponent in the Cleveland Heights Holiday Tournament, the host Tigers
took on the Mentor Cardinals. In the first of three matchups between these two teams,
the storyline was goaltending. Heights freshman goalie
Matt Crowell made his first start of the season
and, with only six minutes of previous experience, shut down the Cardinal offense.
Heights' offense had their own problems until halfway through the second period when
Marcus Dancy scored off a pass from
Brian Clark on a two-on-one.
Sean Collins appeared to have his fourth goal
of the year a few minutes later, but the referee judged that the puck had hit the crossbar.
Doug Turner added an empty-net goal with one second
remaining. Crowell made 26 saves in the Tigers' first shutout since November 23,
1996 when Heights beat University School 7-0.
