12/29/97 Cleveland Heights 3 - Lakewood 2 (OT)
Heights finished the Cleveland Heights Holiday Tournament with the consolation game
against the surprising Lakewood Rangers. For the fourth game in a row, the Tigers'
offense had trouble putting the puck in the net. The Rangers defense withstood a
barrage of shots in the first and second period while they built a 2-0 lead. It
wasn't until ten minutes into the third period that Heights finally got on the
scoreboard with a goal by Lee Allen. Still down by
a goal with a minute to play, the Tigers pulled their goalie in favor of a sixth attacker.
With 21 seconds on the clock, Shannon Barden
deflected a shot past Lakewood's goalie to tie the score and send the game into overtime.
Heights had a number of scoring chances but it wasn't until the second overtime that
Sean Collins put the game away with his fourth
goal of the season. Andrew Markus stopped 23 shots
in the win.
