2/20/98 Rocky River 2 - Cleveland Heights 1 (OT)
The Tigers season screeched to a halt with a 2-1 overtime loss to Rocky River in the
first round of the State Sectional Tournament. Rocky River scored the game's first goal
at the four minute mark of the third period, but Heights' captain
Eddie Babcox answered with a goal of his own,
less than a minute later. No more goals would be scored until overtime, when Tigers'
goaltender Andrew Markus was tackled in a
goalmouth scramble, allowing Rocky River to knock a rebound into an empty net. This was
the Tigers' first loss in overtime this season; they finished with a 2-1-1 overtime
record. Babcox ended his senior season with eight goals in his last five games, while
Markus had another outstanding performance with 28 saves. In a remarkable display of
poor officiating, Heights had no powerplay opportunities for the entire game.
