Heights played a close game for two and a half periods before eventually falling 5-1 to
St. Edward. The Tigers were eliminated from the State Tournament after an exciting run
that saw the team win back-to-back games in double and triple overtime. Heights was able
to stay in this game by keeping St. Edward away from the slot, and allowing shots from
the perimeter. As Ben Gaglioti would make the initial
save, the defense would clamp down and prevent the Eagles from getting to the rebound.
This strategy kept St. Edward in check for most of the game. Despite being heavily
outshot, the Tigers led 1-0 at the first intermission.
Jeff Houser tipped in a
Chris Pesek slapshot to put Heights ahead with his
team-leading 15th goal. St. Edward scored the only goal of the second period on a
powerplay and the game was deadlocked at one entering period number three. In the third,
the Eagles took an early 2-1 lead, then struck for three goals midway through to put the
game out of reach. The Tigers' hopes of winning the game were dependent on two keys:
good goaltending and capitalizing on their few scoring chances. Ben Gaglioti was once
again brilliant in net with 52 saves, but the offense didn't come through. Heights missed
a number of good scoring chances and finished 0-5 on the powerplay.
