The Tigers weathered the storm en route to their first win of the season against Western
Reserve Academy. Blizzard conditions in Cleveland turned the bus trip to Kent into a
three-hour trek and delayed the opening face-off by more than an hour. When the puck
finally dropped, both teams combined for a sloppy game befitting of the weather. Heights
never got the offense running smoothly and only recorded 15 shots on goal, but only three
goals were needed. Dee Samuel tied the game 1-1 in the
first period with his fourth of the season. Jason Kelce
put the Tigers on top with a shorthanded goal, then
Alex Kraus made it 3-1, knocking in his own rebound late
in the second period. WRA applied pressure in the third, scoring once in the final minutes,
but a Pioneer penalty helped the Tigers run out the clock.
Daley Baker stopped 22 shots to secure the win in this
year's first divisional contest.
