Heights kicked off the 2005-2006 season at the Jr. Jacks' Turkey Bowl Tournament,
facing last year's state runner-up, Shaker Heights. The Tigers took an early lead and
played well for one period, but penalties helped change the momentum of the game.
Dee Samuel scored the season's first goal, taking a
long pass off the boards from Rollin Hannah, eluding
one defenseman, and finishing the breakaway. But later in the first, back-to-back Heights
penalties gave Shaker a two-man advantage which they turned into a pair of powerplay
goals. Shaker scored four more goals in the second period as the Tigers gave up odd-man
rushes and struggled in the defensive zone. Heights managed to keep the offense going
with two goals in the period, but it wasn't enough to close the gap. First-year center
Alex Kraus buried a rebound for his first goal, and
Dee Samuel scored on a powerplay for his second goal of the day. The Tigers had a few
chances in the third but didn't convert, while the Raiders added two more.
