The Tigers opened the Heights Holiday Tournament with an offensive explosion against
Cincinnati Sycamore. Heights scored three in the second and three in the third to blow
open a close game. Ethan Farris put the Tigers up 1-0
in the first period as both teams went back and forth with scoring chances. The game
remained close until halfway through the second period, when the Tigers took a penalty
and an unusual occurrence ignited the offense. Farris,
Jason Kelce and
Rollin Hannah rattled off three consecutive shorthanded
goals in a 90-second span. The Aviators would advance into the offensive zone, but Heights
repeatedly intercepted the puck, took it the other way and scored off the rush. Sycamore
picked up their lone goal shortly thereafter, but the game would not be very close from
that point on. Kelce scored again in the third period, then
Dee Samuel tacked on a pair of his own to make it 7-1.
Daley Baker won his fourth game between the pipes,
stopping 19 of 20 shots, narrowly missing the shutout. Kelce finished with two goals and
two assists for a season-high four points.
