Heights allowed a four-goal second period on the way to a 5-1 loss against Elyria Catholic.
It looked like the game would be a defensive battle after the teams combined for five shots
on goal in the first period. Following a mistake-free first, the Tigers stumbled through
the second. The trouble started with some ugly powerplays early in the period. Heights had
a two-man advantage, then another powerplay soon after, but couldn't control the puck or
create anything in the offensive zone. Elyria Catholic jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a
shorthanded breakaway goal. The breakaways didn't stop there. The Tigers were consistently
caught in transition and burned by odd-man rushes. The Panthers concluded the period with
a 4-0 lead. After giving up another breakaway goal in the third, Heights finally got on the
scoreboard. Brandon Saylor recorded his first goal of the
year on a blast from the point.
