Heights met the Talawanda Braves from Oxford, Ohio on day one of the tournament in Dublin.
The two teams traded goals on their way to a 4-4 tie, with neither team ever taking a lead
beyond one goal. Dee Samuel and
Alex Kraus each put a goal on the board in the first
period. Paris Murray raced to a shorthanded breakaway
goal in the second and the score was 3-3 entering the final period. Talawanda scored early
and held a 4-3 lead for most of the period. With just over a minute to play, the Braves
took a crucial interference penalty to give the Tigers an opening. Heights pulled
Daley Baker from the net to go with a 6-on-4 advantage.
The Tigers won the ensuing face-off, Jason Kelce put the
puck on net and Ethan Farris knocked in the rebound to
tie the game. The final minute elapsed and the game ended in a draw, with no overtime being
played.
